A dark comedy is coming to the Lichfield Garrick in the shape of No View From The Window.
Written by Kim Jackson and Rebecca Mahon, the show tells the story of Louise’s mother who has just died and, as chief mourner, she should be downstairs at the wake. Instead she has retreated to ‘her room’ – the bathroom in her mother’s house.
Quite why this grubby, untidy space should be so special to her is difficult to see. But as the story unfolds it becomes clear why it is central to Louise’s life. She tells audiences how this bathroom became her room as she escaped from her controlling mother. She looks back at her childhood: her first period, first kiss and first sexual encounter, her mother’s affair with the bathroom salesman and her own marriage and relationship with her daughter.
As well as writing the show, Rebecca also stars as Louise and shows her as a resentful adult still harbouring the anger towards her self-centred and uncaring mother.
No View From The Window will be at the Lichfield Garrick on April 1 and 2 at 7.30pm.
