The Darwin Ensemble Chamber Orchestra’s wind players will take the spotlight for a concert in Lichfield Cathedral.
Internationally-renowned oboist George Caird will direct the performance at 7.30pm on February 16.
The concert will open with Mozart’s Serenade in C minor for wind octet – a moody work ending in a joyous rondo, written for a group of instruments more usually associated with light music and background entertainment in Mozart’s day. To follow, the ensemble will play three arias from Mozart’s much-loved opera Don Giovanni, which were arranged for wind players by a Bohemian oboist who had worked with Mozart himself. It’s an unusual twist on an old favourite, before turning to Bohemia wholeheartedly for Dvorak’s Serenade for Winds, bursting with the evocative dance music of the composer’s Czech heritage.
With Caird at the helm of DECO’s outstanding wind players, the audience can look forward to a lively and enthralling performance.
