MOTORISTS travelling over the New Year period are being urged to take extra care with heavy rain forecast.
A Met Office yellow weather warning is in place across Staffordshire from this evening (31st December) to New Year’s Day.
People who need to travel are being asked to take extra care, to allow extra time for journeys and to drive to the conditions.
Cllr Mark Deaville, Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet member for strategic highways, said:
“With some heavy rain expected over the next few days and a risk of wintery showers on higher ground, I’d like to remind people who need to travel to take particular care.
“People should slow down, leave plenty of room between themselves and the car in front of them and drive to the conditions.
“Please also be aware that there could be fallen trees, debris or surface flooding around any corner – and please don’t drive through flooded sections of roads, as it’s difficult to tell how deep the water is.”
