THE story of The Smiths will be told by the band’s drummer at an event in Lichfield.
Mike Joyce will be promoting his new book, The Drums, when he comes to The Hub at St Mary’s on 28th March.
His frank perspective on the influential group offers genuine insight into their story.
He said:
“I’ve been asked numerous times ‘what was it like being in The Smiths?’. On most occasions, my answer’s been ‘have you got a couple of days to spare?’. It felt like going into detail to explain what it was really like would be impossible.
“The only way to do that would be to commit to paper, so it’s been quite a journey going back 40 years to relive some of the experiences encountered during my time with the band.
“I hope readers feel I’ve answered that question.”
The event in Lichfield will see Mike in conversation with Daniel Rachel as he covers everything from the band forming in 1982 to them breaking up in 1987.
It was a period that saw them see all five studio albums reaching the top five in the charts.
