FUNDING of more than £640,000 for St Giles Hospice has been welcomed by Lichfield’s MP.
The extra money for the Whittington-based charity is part of plans the Government say will transform the end of life care sector.
The national scheme aims to modernise hospices through upgrades such as specially-adapted beds, rooms and technology.
Lichfield MP Dave Robertson said:
“The team at St Giles provide first-class care for people with life-limiting conditions. This money will make a real difference and support the vital work the hospice does.
“There is still work to do, but this announcement is a step in the right direction for St Giles and the families it supports.”
Across England, more than 170 hospice sites are set to benefit from an additional £75million pot.

“We are grateful for this substantial additional funding which provides crucial support as we continue to face significant financial challenges, including increased National Insurance costs and potential NHS wage increases.
“This funding will help us maintain our commitment to providing outstanding end of life care. However, while very welcome, this highlights the urgent need for sustainable, long-term funding reform.
“The hospice sector cannot continue to rely on emergency funding packages – we need systemic change that ensures hospices can plan and deliver consistent, high-quality care without ongoing financial uncertainty.”
