There will be something for all of the family when The Burntwood Wakes festival kicks off.
The weekend of fun (August 7-9) is set to kick-off with a night featuring top unsigned bands at the Wakes venue (Burntwood Rugby Club).
The Lean Yellows, The Reason, Karsis, Dead Lights, Indecisive, Asylum Soldiers, China Red, We are Nines and White Rose are on the bill for the free Wakes opener on August 7.
On Saturday August 8, a family fun day gets the Wakes action underway from 12noon, with an It’s A Knockout contest, a medieval archery display, an ice skating rink and laser clay pigeon shoot among the events taking place. Entry to the Wakes’ family fun day is free.
Classical music will take centre stage on Saturday evening when Don MacLean and Malcolm Stent presenting Adrian Jackson conducting the 50-piece City Concert Orchestra and the 50 voices of the Midland Symphony Choir. Joining them on stage will be soloist Elizabeth MacDonald.
Entry to the Proms in the Park evening is £18 advance or £20 on the day for adults, £10 children and under two free. The concert gets underway at 7pm.
The musical theme continues on Sunday when the sounds of the sixties coming bouncing back.
The 60’s Summer Music Festival features the likes of Gerry & The Pacemakers, The Searchers, PJ Proby, The Move, Alvin Stardust, The New Amen Corner with Chip Hawkes and Mike D’Abo.
Doors open at 2pm for the gig which will run from 3pm until 10pm. Tickets are £28 in advance or £30 on the day for adults, children £10 and under two free.
