The former leader of Lichfield District Council has urged his successor to ensure he surrounds himself with a good team.
Cllr Mike Wilcox lost a leadership vote amongst Conservative councillors at Lichfield District Council after more than a decade at the helm.
He will be succeeded by Cllr Doug Pullen in the leader’s chair when the council meets for the first time on 21st May.
In an interview with Lichfield Live, Cllr Wilcox offered up some top tips for his successor.
“The best piece of advice I could give is to try and get a good work life balance,” he said. “It’s very easy to accept every invitation and get involved in everything.
“I could have been a better delegator of tasks because I took it all on my shoulders at times.
“It’s important that Doug has a good team of people around him – and where possible you have to try to keep a smile on your face and have a bit of humour.”
Cllr Iain Eadie has already been named as the new deputy leader, but a final decision is still to be made on whether members of the current Cabinet will continue in their roles.
