Lichfield fundraisers have broken a world record.
St Giles Hospice’s Solstice Walk saw 871 people take part dressed as fairies – smashing the previous best of 786 fairies gathered in one place in 2012.
Although the result of the record attempt won’t be officially verified for several weeks, organisers are confident they will be able to claim the title.
Helen Relihan, head of fundraising for St Giles Hospice, saod: “There’s always a unique atmosphere at the Solstice Walk, but this year was particularly special with everyone really joining in the spirit of the fairy-themed world record attempt.
“We’re keeping our fingers crossed that our record bid will be officially confirmed, and with sponsorship still coming in, we’re hoping this year will also be one of our most successful fundraisers.”
The night-time walk takes place each year on the closest Saturday to the summer solstice and has raised more than £500,000 for the Whittington-based charity since 2007.
