The future of land earmarked for the failed Friarsgate redevelopment is up for discussion at events in Lichfield.

Residents and businesses are being invited to have their say on the void – now rebranded as the Birmingham Road Site – at an open event on 6th March.
A discussion will also take place involving the cross party task group and organisations such as Lichfield City Council and Lichfield Business Improvement District on 27th February.

Cllr Mike Wilcox, Leader of Lichfield District Council, said: “These events will be a great opportunity for people to hear about the work carried out to date by the task group and feed their views into future plans.
“We know how important this area is to the city and how strongly people feel about the development, so we hope plenty of people will come along and give us their ideas and thoughts.”
The future of Friarsgate’s land has been in limbo since the collapse of the project after more than 10 years in the making.
A cross-party working group was created to develop a way forward for the scheme, although it emerged that just two members had turned up for a meeting on the issue in the lead up to Christmas.
Cllr Wilcox has since drawn up short term plans to improve the site, but these have drawn criticism from one member of the working group.
