Labour councillors in Lichfield say the future of Friary Grange Leisure Centre was high on the agenda when they held their latest street surgery.
Cllr Colin Ball, Cllr Dave Robertson and Cllr Matthew Field met residents in Ponesfield Road, Stychbrook Gardens, Pones Green and Handel Walk last weekend.
A number of issues were raised by locals during the session.
Cllr Robertson said: “At this latest street surgery, we talked to lots of people and had concerns raised by a dozen or so. These ranged from parking problems to anti-social behaviour.
“However, far and away the biggest issue was about activities and facilities for young people and teenagers.
“This is not surprising really, given the current justified public outcry over the proposal to close the Friary Grange Leisure Centre.
“We will be following up all the issues raised and getting back to residents afterwards with an update.”
As well as the street surgery, the councillors also hold sessions at Jigsaw Community Hub on Dimbles Lane on the third Friday of the month from 7pm to 8pm.
Cllr Ball added: “I’m pleased with the way that the monthly advice surgeries and regular street surgeries have gone.
“They are a wonderful chance to meet and listen to local residents, so that we can try to help them with any issues that they have.
“We are also putting out a regular newsletter across the whole of Curborough so that everyone will know what we’ve being doing, because it will take quite a time to get round and knock on every door in Curborough – although we are aiming to do that before the next council elections.”
Cllr Matthew Field, who sits on Lichfield City Council, said: “I was pleased to be out and about with Colin and Dave, hearing from local people about what really concerns them.
“I’m sure that we will do all that we can to help with all the issues raised.”
