WEATHER has caused disruption across Lichfield and Burntwood following heavy downpours.

Roads became flooded and properties were damaged as a deluge of rainfall fell last night (26th August) and this morning.

Fire crews were out trying to clear blocked roads as residents also counted the cost of water damage to properties.

Meanwhile, in Burntwood, roads were damaged as overloaded drains struggled to cope with the downpour.

On Chasetown High Street, local pub The Crown took steps to keep drivers safe after block paving was lifted. They placed bins either side to try and divert motorists around the damaged stretch until highways emergency teams could attend.

Cllr Darren Ennis, leader of Burntwood Town Council and Chasetown ward representative at Lichfield District Council, said:

"We reported the issue to the highways department as soon as we became aware of it, and I have spoken directly with their emergency team who have confirmed they are responding as quickly as possible.

"I would urge anyone travelling to take extra care, and to thank the residents who have stepped in to help warn and divert traffic."
