Hundreds of people gathered for a candlelit vigil at the National Memorial Arboretum to make the centenary since the end of the First World War.
The event featured a procession to the Armed Forces Memorial where a service of remembrance was held to mark 100 years since the armistice agreement was signed.
Lewis Holmes, 17, also offered a moving personal reflection during the service.
He spoke of his great grandfather who, when aged 17, lied about his age to fight in the Battle of the Somme. He escaped death when a bullet hit his helmet.
