A strike by journalists over the closure of nine newspapers – including the Lichfield Post – has been called off.

The National Union of Journalists has confirmed that plans for industrial action on Thursday (July 30) have been cancelled after Trinity Mirror agreed that there would be no compulsory redundancies for journalists at BPM Media (Midlands) and Midland Weekly Media North titles.

BPM Media MD John Griffith said:

“We are delighted that the NUJ have called off the strike threat in Birmingham. As we said at the start of this process we are committed to constructive consultation and we are extremely pleased to have achieved this outcome.”
