LICHFIELD City picked up their first win of the season as a Jude Taylor header was enough to collect all three points at Bedworth United.
Ivor Green’s men began brightly with Jack Edwards seeing his early effort gathered by home keeper Will Highland.
But City didn’t have to wait long for their first goal at step four as a neat move on 11 minutes found Wilcock who delivered a pinpoint cross for Taylor to nod home.
It was almost 2-0 when Jamie Spiers’ low drive beat the keeper but cannoned back off the upright.
Bedworth looked to hit back before the break with a couple of efforts wide of Brendon Bunn’s goal.
Lichfield were quick out of the blocks again in the second period though as Taylor forced an early save from Highland.
Edwards was next to try his luck after he tried to catch the keeper of his line, but the ball cleared the crossbar.
Bedworth thought they’d found a leveller when they hit the City net, only for the assistant referee to flag that the ball had gone out of play earlier in the move.
Joe Haines saw a shot saved by Highfield as Lichfield looked to give themselves some breathing space – and the Bedworth keeper then played his part once more as he denied Spiers with a smart one-on-one stop.
City continued to carve out chances as Taylor fired narrowly wide and then sent a half-volley just over, while Edwards powered past the upright.
But with the advantage only being one goal, Bedworth were still in the game – and they almost found a leveller when Bunn kept out a free-kick to ensure Lichfield’s first win of the season.
