The leader of Lichfield District Council has joined those paying tribute following the death of a former member.
Cllr Margaret Stanhope entered local politics after joining the then Lichfield District Rural Council in 1970.
She then served the Alrewas and Fradley ward when the authority became Lichfield District Council in 1974 until her retirement in 2019.
Cllr Doug Pullen, leader of the council, said:
“Cllr Stanhope gave nearly half a century of service to Lichfield district and her unwavering commitment to the residents of the area was very much valued.
“We are extremely sad to hear the news of her passing and our thoughts are with her family and friends at this time.”
