The Liberal Democrats’ Shadow Transport Secretary has joined Lichfield MP Michael Fabricant in criticising the performance of a train operator responsible for services through the city.

Norman Baker made his comments in the wake of criticism from Lord Adonis over the widespread cancellations on London Midland services on September 6 due to a driver shortage.

Conservative MP Mr Fabricant welcomed the clampdown on London Midland and demanded long-term solutions to problems faced by Lichfield commuters using the company’s services, but now Mr Baker has joined the row, describing the situation as “farcical”.

He added:

“It is right to clamp down hard on London Midland. This was a farcical situation that should never have been allowed to happen.

“Passengers have enough to worry about with rising fares and overcrowding, they should not have to second guess whether there will be enough drivers.”
