Social media users captured video of Huw Merriman, Conservative MP for Bexhill and Battle, sat behind Michael Fabricant during Prime Minister’s Questions.

After studying Mr Fabricant’s hair, Mr Merriman then appeared to mouth “it’s a wig” to others in the chamber.

Mr Fabricant responded to the video by suggesting Mr Merriman had forgotten his actions might be caught on camera.

After being asked on Twitter who it was sat behind him, the Lichfield and Burntwood MP replied: “It’s Huw Merriman MP.

“I realise no-one knows him. A newish member, a little short sighted, and who doesn’t yet realise that PMQs are televised, bless.

“I know people are annoyed about his antics, they have been calling my office, but he’ll eventually learn how to behave. Sweet.”
