A Lichfield group is putting itself in the shop window to raise its profile in the city and attract volunteers.
Lichfield and Hatherton Canals Restoration Trust has been granted a licence to occupy an empty unit in City Arcade.
The shop will be manned by volunteers who will explain the work of the Trust and its position in the community, recruit new members and encourage donations.
Trust Chairman Brian Kingshott said: “Lichfield and Hatherton Canals Restoration Trust is very excited by the prospect of running a shop in the heart of Lichfield. This will make our work known to a much wider range of the public than we can usually manage.
“The Trust has been working to restore the Lichfield Canal for 25 years and has enjoyed increasing support from local people.
“Inevitably, we have found ourselves talking to those who already know about us. Now, we can talk to a much wider public.
“Canal enthusiast or not, we are sure that everyone will enjoy looking at our displays and might even buy a few small items. Of course, anyone who wishes to become a member will be extremely welcome.”
