LICHFIELD city picked up their first win and points of the season after a 1-0 win at Congleton Town.
Matty Lovatt's men finally ended a run which had previously seen them rooted to the foot of the Northern Premier League West.
But the result sees them leapfrog their hosts in the table – and will hopefully kickstart their campaign.
City keeper Tom Carter made a good save in the opening exchanges to keep out Matthew Gillam's shot.
Kieran Knapper went close again for Congleton after 22 minutes when he glanced a header just wide of the target.
The second half again saw Congleton press for the opener as Carter denied James Kirby.
The City keeper was being kept busy – and his stops would prove crucial as Lichfield's luck finally turned in the 72nd minute when Dylan Thomas was brought down in the box. He dusted himself down to convert the spot kick and put his side in front.
Congleton thought they'd levelled it two minutes from time when Kirby's header was somehow kept out by Carter's excellent stop from point-blank range.
