ADDITIONAL funding is being allocated by Lichfield City Council to support local community groups.
Councillors agreed to increase the amount it hands out from £32,000 to £50,000.
It follows a request from the grants advisory committee last year.
Cllr Rosie Harvey-Coggins, leader of the city council, said:
“This is an example of the changes that we have sought to bring in since the 2023 elections.
“We are looking to help more people in our city by extending the reach of the grants that the city council has available to fund school holiday activities across the full year, as well as ensuring that we focus on our key priorities of doing what we can to tackle the climate crisis, help with cost of living issues, provide support and services for young people and reach out to disadvantaged and marginalised groups.”
Applications for the funding closed earlier this month, but Cllr Colin Ball, chair of the grants advisory committee, said the decision to allocate more funding will help ensure more help is available.
“I am delighted that the city council has agreed to increase the grants budget, which has been set at £32,000 for many years.
“This will enable the council to help local groups deliver support, services and events to a wide range of individuals and communities across our city.
“Although the closing date for new applications has passed, this increase will enable the committee to be confident of having enough funds to award grants and be sure of having funds available for school holiday activities across the year.
“The committee would welcome applications for grants to support school holiday activities over the course of the coming year.”
