LICHFIELD City’s miserable start to the season continued as they suffered yet another heavy defeat.

The FA Trophy clash with Matlock Town came on the back of a winless start to the season for new boss Matty Lovatt as his side had previously crashed out of the FA Cup and lost all of their league fixtures to date.

City had created first-half chances with Matthew Barnes-Homer striking the post and Dylan Thomas twice being denied by visiting keeper Marcus Dewhurst.

But any hopes of Lichfield kickstarting their campaign were extinguished as they went behind on the stroke of half time through Brandon Bradbury.

Things went from bad to worse five minutes into the second period when Manasse Mampala made it 2-0.

Matlock's third came moments later as a quick break allowed Jed Abbey to net.

The visitors were in no mood to take their foot off the gas and made it 4-0 as a two-on-one opportunity saw Zak Goodson give City keeper Tom Carter no chance.

The misery for Lichfield was complete when Abbey added Matlock's fifth goal of the afternoon to dump the home side out of another competition.
