LICHFIELD City kept their play-off hopes alive with a 4-2 win at Belper Town.
The visitors got off to the worst possible start though against a home side also looking to extend their season in the push for promotion as Callum Griffin nodded into his own net with ten minutes on the clock.
But anything City could do, Belper could too as three minutes later a deep cross into the box saw a defender turn into his own net to level things up at 1-1.
Brendon Bunn made a save to keep the scores equal, while at the other end John Mills’ strike from distance was pushed round the post by home stopper Kieran Preston.
The Belper keeper was called into action again early in the second half as he did well to keep out a Jude Taylor effort.
But Preston had no chance on 52 minutes when Kieran Francis applied the finish to make it 2-1.
Lichfield’s afternoon got even better just before the hour as a quick free-kick saw Griffin race away to slot home and make up for his earlier own goal.
Belper were in no mood to lie down though as they made it 3-2 with 20 minutes to go when Danny South nodded home from a corner.
City’s nerves were eased three minutes from time when Isaac Smart planted a low strike beyond Preston to wrap up a 4-2 victory that leaves them five points behind Belper who now occupy the final play-off berth.
