LICHFIELD City made a welcome return to winning ways as they beat Rugby Borough at the Trade Tyre Community Stadium.
The visitors made the brighter start forcing Brendon Bunn to save well from a header in the opening exchanges.
But it was City who broke the deadlock when Jack Edwards’ delivery was nodded home by Leighton McMenemy.
It was almost 2-0 when Josh Mansell’s header sparked a scramble in the box, but Rugby keeper Marcus Bald was able to gather.
The visitors had a golden opportunity to level when Luke Childs’ challenge in the box saw a penalty awarded, but the spot kick cannoned off the crossbar.
Lichfield had a good chance early in the second half when Edwards saw a shot blocked and Jude Taylor could only fire the rebound wide.
Taylor was proving a threat all afternoon and forced Bald into a good save to prevent him doubling the lead.
At the other end, Callum Griffin made a number of key blocks to prevent Rugby finding a way back into the game.
Lichfield eventually stretched their advantage when Harvey Smith slotted under the keeper to make it 2-0.
Rugby sent a free-kick wide as they looked to reduce the deficit, but City were not to be denied their clean sheet and all three points.
