LICHFIELD City’s Women retained their 11-point gap at the top of the table after a narrow win over Chasetown.
The Scholars started strongly at the Trade Tyre Community stadium though, enjoying the majority of the play early on.
The first half saw limited chances for both sides however, but City were clinical when one did arrive on 25 minutes as Shelbie Cartwright found Isabella Margiotta who fired home to open the scoring.
The lead was almost doubled when Jacqueline Corazza’s smart footwork carved open a chance, but she scuffed her shot.
Chasetown managed to grab an equaliser before the break to send the two teams in at 1-1 thanks to a close range finish.
A tense second half saw both sides continue to battle it out, but it was Lichfield who again got themselves in front when sub Corinna Williams slotted home.
Lily Taylor-Maxwell went close to adding a third for City but was denied by a good save before the ball was hooked away by a defender on the line.
A second yellow card for Loren Cooper saw the hosts reduced to ten men, but Chasetown were unable to find an elusive leveller.
