A Lichfield councillor has been backed to succeed in his new role as Police and Crime Commissioner by his former colleagues.
Matthew Ellis – Staffordshire County Councillor for the Lichfield Rural East area – was elected to the new post last week
Robert Marshall, the council’s cabinet member for public health and community safety, said: “We would like to congratulate Matthew after being elected in the role of Police and Crime Commissioner.
“We are sure he will lead an effective and efficient police force in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent.
“He has achieved a great deal in transforming social care at the county council and we know will transfer his skills to his new role.
“The county council works closely with the police as it is one of our main priorities to ensure that Staffordshire is a place where people can live safely and increasingly free from crime and the fear of crime.
“We have run a number of joint initiatives across Staffordshire to combat crime and increase community safety and cohesion and will continue to build on the successes we have achieved together.”
