A Lichfield City Councillor’s long service has been honoured at the Labour party’s annual conference.

Cllr John Brookes, who represents the Curborough ward, received an award from leader Ed Miliband and Harriet Harman at the event in Brighton.

The merit award was in honour of his 50 years of membership to the party.

“I’m quite overwhelmed,” he said. “People have been so kind.

“An award like this means the world to me. And I need to thank all of the other members who have worked with me over the years.”
