The leader of Lichfield District Council has said he is “delighted” by the growth of the region’s Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) .
Redditch and Wyre Forest have joined the Greater Birmingham and Solihull LEP which will now become one of the largest in the country.
Councillor Mike Wilcox, Leader of Lichfield District Council, which is a member of the LEP, said:
“Being a part of one of the largest LEPs in the country, which covers a population of around two million people and 950,000 jobs, puts us in an enviable position of being at the centre of discussions that affect us. We’re delighted the LEP is continuing to grow, and we’re excited about its agenda.”
The Greater Birmingham and Solihull LEP development board has identified a number of areas to urgently deliver private sector-led growth and jobs, including supporting the runway extension at Birmingham Airport, improving planning regimes to promote growth, expanding access to finance for small and medium enterprises, developing an employer-led approach to skills and employment which sees young people, in particular, developing the attributes and expertise to work in local businesses, and providing effective and relevant business support and mentoring.
