Lichfield District Council has been told it must not miss out on any benefits of joining a combined authority.
The local authority is currently in discussions with a proposed West Midlands group of councils, as well as members of a potential Staffordshire link-up.
Cllr Mike Wilcox, leader of Lichfield District Council, says talks are ongoing – but believes members must make sure they have all of the information before making a choice.
“We are continuing to have meetings,” he said. “The chief executive is having weekly discussions with others from the potential West Midlands group.
“The situation is ever-changing but we are continuing to gain an insight.
“It’s not about a merger or a takeover, but a combined authority.
“We need to make sure we do what’s right, play the bigger game and make sure we don’t miss out.”
