Councillors have been urged to hold talks about the future of Friary Grange Leisure Centre in public.
Lichfield District Council has confirmed it intends to shut the facility to the public in April 2020.
The leisure centre is on the agenda for a meeting of the local authority on Tuesday (16th July) – but will see members of the media and the public forced to leave so the talks can happen in private.
Cllr Joanne Grange, an independent representative on the council, has now called on the Conservative leadership to have the debate in public.
The request comes after Lib Dem Cllr Paul Ray confirmed councillors had been discussing the future of Friary Grange Leisure Centre away from public view for the last month.
The discussion is in the private section of the meeting as the council has decided that it can be due to sections of the Local Government Act 1972 because of “information relating to the financial or business affairs of a person, including the authority” or due to a “connection with any labour relations”.
