Lichfield residents will be able to have their say on HS2 when the public consultation comes to the city.
The Guildhall will play host to the event on June 8 and 9 where the high speed rail route will be discussed.
Following its stop in Lichfield, the consultation will visit Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery on June 18 and 19.
Lichfield MP Michael Fabricant has urged people to have their say on the proposals. He explained:
“This will provide an opportunity for my constituents to learn more about HS2 and to make their views known both about the route and whether they believe the new high speed line is really necessary. Needless to say, national anti-HS2 groups will be arguing forcibly whether HS2 is really necessary or whether an upgrade to the West Coast Main Line will obviate the need for HS2. This debate will be well publicised over the coming months and years in the national media.

“In parallel with all this, The Transport Select Committee of the House of Commons will be conducting an independent – and unwhipped – inquiry of its own into the economic arguments for and against HS2.”
