LICHFIELD’S MP says he wants to ensure the country is “building strong links with our allies across the continent”.
Dave Robertson’s comments come as he attends a meeting of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg.
The Labour MP said being chosen to join the delegation was both an honour and an opportunity.
Britain is a founding member of the Council of Europe, which was established in 1949 – almost 50 years before the EU.
Mr Robertson said:
“The Council of Europe is an organisation that was set up by Churchill just after the Second World War.
“It’s an opportunity – long before the EU was a thing, actually – for European countries to come together and make sure that we can work together on matters of mutual interest.”
