Lichfield’s MP has insisted he is still loyal to David Cameron, despite being sacked as vice chairman of the Conservative Party.
Michael Fabricant’s decision to go public over his plans to vote against HS2 legislation has led to the move.
He also said it was “about time” after Culture Minister Maria Miller’s resignation earlier today (April 9).
He told his Twitter followers the news of his sacking earlier this evening.
“Been asked to resign as vice chairman,” he said. “Refused, so sacked over HS2 and my views on a recent cabinet minister.
“I’m still loyal to DC [David Cameron] and our long term economic plan, but not HS2.”
The controversial high speed rail route is set to cut through parts of Lichfield and the surrounding villages – with neighbouring Conservative MP Christopher Pincher also vowing to vote against his own party on the issue.
