Lichfield’s MP has met with the chief engineer of HS2 – but admits he still believes the route chosen for the high speed rail line is “wrong”.

Michael Fabricant raised a number of issues with Andrew McNaughton during their meeting earlier this week, including the height of the line as it crosses to the east of Lichfield.

And the Conservative MP admits the focus must now be on getting the best deal possible for those affected by HS2.

“I still believe that the route HS2 is taking is wrong,” said Mr Fabricant.

“It is possible that the special Parliamentary committee which will scrutinise the route will agree with me that it should have used existing transport corridors such as the M40. It would also provide better links between Birmingham and Heathrow airports.

“Mitigation of the environmental impact of HS2 and maximisation of the compensation available are now my main priorities”.
