Lichfield’s MP has signed the documentation to authorise the Libyan assets to be frozen.
Michael Fabricant’s signature was required before the Government could begin to block Colonel Gaddafi and his associates from accessing money in the UK.
The Conservative MP explained:
“Although my primary role is that of the Government Pairing Whip, my official title is that of Lord Commissioner of HM Treasury. In that capacity I sign Government cheques and Orders.
“Today, I played a very minor role in history by signing the Government Order which will seize all Libyan assets within the United Kingdom and Overseas Territories.”
