Lichfield’s MP has called for the compensation scheme for those affected by HS2 to be expanded.
Michael Fabricant called for owners of second homes to be eligible for the Exceptional Hardship Scheme, which offers help to people who need to move from properties blighted by the high speed rail route before a formal agreement is in place.
He made his plea as part of the official consultation that is currently underway.
“I have asked that owners of second homes and rental properties also be included for compensation,” said Mr Fabricant, who also welcomed plans to use local estate agents to make valuations on affected properties.
“For many people, a rental property has replaced a company pension. Many such homeowners might need to sell their rental properties in the near future if they are about to retire.”
The Lichfield MP had previously questioned a number of other areas of the compensation plans for HS2. His latest consultation response can be seen in full here.
