After a successful career spanning 20 years at The Midcounties Co-operative Pharmacy, Paul Byrne has retired.
Qualifying in 1978 as a pharmacist, Paul worked at pharmacies in the Midlands before joining Midcounties in 1991 as the Store Manager at The Greenhill Health Centre in Lichfield. After almost ten years in this role, he was asked to join the Group Management and has headed up the Pharmacy division of The Midcounties Co-operative ever since as Group General Manager.
In the senior position, Paul helped grow the business from 28 to 45 pharmacies.
Paul said: “I’ve really enjoyed working for Midcounties and being part of developing the pharmacy business. It was a particularly exciting time when we got the opportunity to go out and buy pharmacies, which I’m pleased I was part of.
“My career highlights are the six awards, including four national accolades, the pharmacy team won during my time at Midcounties.
“I’ll miss my colleagues that I’ve worked with so closely over the years and I’d like to wish them the best of luck for the future.”
Chief Executive Ben Reid said: “Paul has been a real asset to the Pharmacy business during the last 20 years and we’re extremely grateful for his commitment throughout.
“Colleagues have gained a lot of knowledge from him and Paul’s passion for the job has inspired the team in driving the business forward.”
As a keen walker, Paul is looking forward to spending his spare time outdoors and hopes to move to the Lake District with his wife, Sian, in the near future.
