A Lichfield schoolgirl is celebrating after helping her Irish dancing team to be crowned national champions.

Heidi Hawkes, 9, was a member of the under 10 ceili team who took the prize at the Great Britain Championships in Brighton.

The St Joseph’s Primary School student, who dances for the Birmingham-based Kidd School of Irish Dancing, was a member of the eight-strong team who won the title at the weekend.
Mum Emma said: “Heidi and the girls were all over the moon with their win. They work so hard and all have great fun with their dancing so it’s great to see their efforts paying off.”
Heidi, who took up dancing aged four, also competed in the under 9 solo competition, coming 22nd out of 84 dancers from around the world.
It comes on the back of other recent successes for the young dancer, including winning the under 9 Glendarragh Feis championship last month and the John Flanagan feis title earlier this year.
She is now hoping to compete alongside her ceili team-mates at the 2018 World Championships in Glasgow, as well as competing as a solo dancer in the All Ireland Championships in Killarney next year.
