LICHFIELD shrugged off a run of poor form to claim a vital victory over Wolverhampton 2nds.
After being sent in to bat first, Adam Braddock’s men were desperate to find some consistency – but after reaching 46 they may have had a sense of deja-vu as Asif Rajah became the first wicket to fall and then Will Davies quickly followed him.
Stuart Fielding departed with the score on 74, but Preston Lee’s 77 and Daniel Caddick’s 50 put the innings firmly back on track as they eventually reached a total of 228 in their 50 overs before being skittled out.
The tally gave Lichfield hope of recording a vital victory – and the early dismissal of Oliver Brown on ten when he was caught by Stuart Fielding off the bowling of Isaac Rowley with the scoreboard on 14 gave the city side real hope.
The score moved on to 41 when Rowley claimed a second victim when Braddock bagged a catch to send Harmanpreet Singh back to the pavilion.
Oliver Margetts then followed after being trapped lbw by George Turner to leave Wolverhampton on 83-3. Two more wickets then fell to leave Lichfield in a dominant position with the scoreboard reading 93-5.
But Hasan Quasi had been building a score at the crease and made 61 before he was bowled by Rowley with the hosts on 151.
The wickets kept coming for Lichfield as they reduced Wolverhampton to 188-9.
The final batsmen fell when Main Tariq Shah was caught by Will Davies off Zayn Hussain’s bowling to end the home side’s innings on 197 and hand Braddock’s men a crucial victory.
Rowley was the pick of the Lichfield bowlers as he finished with figures of 4-53.
