Squash players in Lichfield have taken part in a global event aimed at raising the profile of the sport.
Organisers of World Squash Day hope that the event will help secure the sport a place in the 2020 Olympics.
Members of Lichfield Squash Club together with players from Burton Tennis and Squash Club battled it out at King Edward VI Leisure Centre as two teams of 18 players competed throughout the day. The series of singles matches formed part of the international tournament which saw more than 10,000 games played.
In Lichfield, Team Squash and Team 2020 were evenly matched and could not be separated with a 9-9 draw.
James Roberts, Lichield Squash Club chairman, said: “So many people have said how surprised they are that squash is not already an Olympic sport so we were delighted to do our bit to contribute to what was such a successful global event.
“In addition, this was the first time that we have staged a joint event with our friends from Burton and we hope that this will be the first of many future joint events.”
