Staff at a Lichfield supermarket are preparing for a day of celebrations to mark the store’s 25th anniversary
Midlands Co-operative Society’s Boley Park store will be playing host to the Clarinet Ensemble from the band of the West Midlands Fire Service from 10am to 3pm on Saturday (October 24).
And younger shoppers will be able to take part in a colouring competition and will be kept amused by a face painter and balloon modeller, while a number of food-sampling opportunities will be on offer.
Local community groups are also being invited to take part in a free prize draw to win one of 25 £50 cash donations.
As well as being the store’s anniversary, the day also marks the imminent retirement of the store’s original manager who opened it in 1984. Since then Pete Whitmore has progressed his way through the ranks to become the number two in Retail at Midlands Co-operative Society and will be retiring on October 30.
Pete will be joining the current store manager, Gary Brooks, to cut the celebratory cake and get the activities underway.
Gary said:
“We are all very excited about our anniversary celebrations and we would like to invite customers old and new to join in the fun. The store is looking fantastic now that our £600,000 refurbishment is complete and we are keen to show it off!
“The store has been completely remodelled including improvements to the in-store bakery operation, including visibility for customers of the baking activity, and café has been given a full makeover. All the tea, coffee and hot chocolate served in the café are Fairtrade, further demonstrating our commitment to ethical retailing, and this has also helped us to gain a highly commended award in the Fairtrade category of the Lichfield Chamber of Trade and Commerce Awards which are voted for by local shoppers.
