Villagers in Streethay have opened up a second front on their battle with housing developers in Lichfield.
The Streethay Against Development action group are already campaigned against plans to build more than 800 new houses in their village.
But with new plans for 5,000 homes in Curborough including a proposal to build a new road to connect with Burton Road which runs through the village, the group are on the campaign trail once more.
They’ve already contacted local residents with information about the proposal – which would see the new road link up with the mini island near the Trent Valley railway bridge.
And they have urged villagers to sign letters of objection to the scheme, which is already being battled by the Fradley Against Curborough Town group which successfully saw off the Eco-town which was earmarked for the same land.
In a letter to local residents, Streethay Against Development said:
“This will bring a tremendous number – probably thousands – of extra vehicles each day onto Burton Road, particularly at peak periods. It is ludicrous to think that Burton Road can absorb this increase. Even if you are tempted to think that it will not affect you, stop and think again as it most certainly will.
“The prospect of static traffic jams is not an exaggeration or myth, it is a real threat which we must combine to defeat.”
