Lorry fire closes the A38 at Lichfield

A lorry has caught fire in Lichfield, closing the A38 in both directions.

The incident happened on the northbound carriageway between Cappers Lane and Streethay shortly before 7pm this evening (June 21).

Fire crews from Lichfield, Chase Terrace, Rugeley and Cannock attended the scene after the HGV caught fire.

Residents in Streethay reported a large explosion and Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that the incident was still being dealt with.

A spokesperson said:

“We have used large volumes of foam and are still in attendance at the scene.”

It is not known how long the road will remain closed for.
