To say that Burntwood 2nds made a slow start in their home friendly match with Leek 2nds would be an understatement – they conceded four converted tries in the first 20 minutes.
They managed to reply with two converted tries before the break and shared four tries with their opponents in the second half but the damage had been done – the final score being 28-44.
Two of Leek’s first four tries came from home winger Nick Peplow who had been loaned to the visitors after they arrived a man short.
Luke Rookyard and Anthony Morgan scored tries for Burntwood before the break, both converted by Morgan.
The second half play ebbed and flowed with both sides playing good open rugby. Sam Wanty and Dave Ward scored tries for the hosts.
Special mention for Jon Pucci who took up the unfamiliar role of full back and did well.
