Burntwood 2nds returned from their Merit Table fixture against Handsworth 2nds with a 26-12 result in their favour.
Playing up the slope in the first half, the visitors spent most of their time defending but with the likes of Mark Thomas and Simon Edwards leading from the front along with prop forwards Dave Peplow and Nigel Smith they actually finished the half five points up.
The try was begun by Rob England with support from Edwards. He released Luke Briggs on a 30 metre run and he then found Ian Cooper to score an excellent try, the full back showing that he can attack as well as tackle like a brick outhouse.
Handsworth replied early in the second half before John Haire crossed for Burntwood.
The hosts hit back with their second converted try but good support play, particularly from Luke Rookyard, eventually wore Handsworth down. They made the game safe with a try from Dan Thornton and then Andy Macey unselfishly put Rookyard in for a deserved score to round off a satisfactory afternoon’s work. Brett Taylor kicked three conversions.
