Burntwood RUFC U16s were unlucky not to get the win after playing their hearts out away to Nuneaton.
The start of the game was nothing like the rest of the game as quick hands from the backs lead to the Nuneaton winger running half the pitch to score the try. They failed to convert making it 5-0 after five minutes.
The rest of the game was to be a hard fought contest though. Good work from the Wood forwards Mark Sage, Ryan Johnson and Dan Bickley winning a penalty 30m from the posts. This was knocked straight through the middle of the posts by Charlie Liggins making it 5-3 to Nuneaton.
Wood kept the scoring up as five minutes later the fly half did a little up and under over the home defenders for stand in centre Ben Tranter to sprint to the line for his 88th try for Burntwood. They failed to convert as the ball fell off the tee which resulted in them having to take a quick drop goal just to the left of the posts making it 5-8 to Burntwood at half time.
In the second half it was a rough game with lots of exchanges from both sides. However, both sides managed to keep their tempers and after 50 minutes Nuneaton scored the first try of the half due to sloppy play by Wood. They failed to convert making it 10-8 to Nuneaton.
Wood had the chance to win the game on 60 minutes as they won a penalty from strong running by Elliot Wooley and Callum Grundy just to the right of the posts. Liggins missed the oportunity to win the game for his team as he put it just to the left of the posts.
