Chasetown FC Reserves increased their lead to four points at the top of the first division with a 3-0 away day victory in Leicestershire.
The slippy conditions didn’t deter the Scholars as they set about their task. Their early pressure paid off when Jonathan Gould picked up a loose ball on the left and returned it across goal. Chad Degville was first to connect, hammering the ball beyond the reach of keeper Ryan Tilly.
Oadby’s first opportunity to level up fell for Mason Hirst when he volleyed wide from a Callum Blow corner after 14 minutes. This sparked the hosts into action and their confidence rose as they started to enjoy a fair share of possession. They almost reaped the dividends when James Miller let fly with a 30 yard power drive that whizzed inches over Mark Wiggins’ upright.
But the Scholars still looked comfortable and started to search for a second goal. Tilley looked determined to prevent this, keeping out a Tom Brown effort and producing a quick reaction stop from Theo Robinson who had broke into space.
A third Aiton entered the field of play after the interval, as dad Bill joined his Chasetown sons by volunteering to stand in for an injured linesman.
There was a shiver of apprehension for the visitors at the start of the half as Oadby attacked through the middle of the park until Jamie Aiton produced a precision tackle against Joss Dixon. Miller then darted through only to be halted by a Jack Hulin interception.
After launching these two attacks the hosts quietened and visitors proceeded to control the game. Courtney Sowe did well to lose his marker and sent Chad Degville through but Tilley saved again.
Chasetown made the game safe on their next attack. Deakin, Degville and Robinson linked up well on the left flank and Robinson emerged to find Drew Aiton whose clinical finish left Tilley stranded.
Oadby were now void of the flair they had shown in the first half while Chasetown sustained the momentum and a third was on the cards. Deakin produced a fine effort on 62 minutes and Tilley was in action once more to palm away a Sowe header.
Number three eventually came on 86 minutes to put the gloss on the visitor’s afternoon. Christian Darby won the ball from Lee Tyers on the half way line and sent an intelligent pass to Robinson who produced an acute finish.
Next week sees the league leaders on their travels again as they visit Highgate Utd in south Birmingham.
