Match report: Port Vale Ladies 4 Chasetown Ladies 1

Chasetown Ladies were unable to emulate the men’s team’s most famous cup victory as they lost 4-1 to Port Vale Ladies.

The Scholars Ladies were ahead after 24 minutes when a neat free-kick from Jodie Kinsey set up Charlotte Bull who confidently rounded the Port Vale keeper to give Chasetown the lead.

The hosts were level six minutes before half-time. A cross from the wing found a Vale striker, who’s shot was fired low and hard into the corner of the net giving Becky Troth no chance in the Chasetown goal.

Despite a number of regulars from last year’s successful team missing through injury or university commitments, the Scholars created a few chances, but were unable to take them as they searched to regain the lead.

Vale took the lead just before the hour. A loose ball was picked up on the edge of the box, and a cruel deflection wrong-footed Troth.

With 15 minutes left, Port Vale gave themselves a two-goal cushion with a run and shot which hammered beyond Troth in the Chasetown goal.

Chasetown Ladies gave it their all to find a way back into the game, but with nothing to lose to try and get back in the tie, the visitors over-committed up front and were caught on the break, with Vale three against one at the back, leaving the simple task of rounding a stranded Troth for 4-1.

With the visitors fielding four debutants in the shape of Katie Rose, Megan Rose, Lucy Allen and Sammy Perry, Port Vale had just too much for the Chasetown Ladies who will look to bounce back next week at home to Coseley Town, kick off 2pm.

Chasetown:  Becky Troth, Amy Farmer, Sarah Thompson, Steph Taylor, Lyndzey Turner, Jodie Kinsey, Dani Wright, Megan Rose, Beth Ridding, Carly Edwards, Charlotte Bull. Subs: Sammy Perry, Katie Rose, Lucy Allen.
