Chasetown Ladies suffered a second defeat at the hands of Port Vale this season.
After losing to their Staffordshire rivals in the cup earlier this season, manager Carly Edwards wanted the Scholars to go and show what Chasetown were really made of.
However, the task was made more difficult when only 11 players were available.
Chasetown conceded within the first ten minutes after Vale broke through visiting defence and soon followed with two more goals, giving the away side a mountain to climb.
The Scholars heads were down and they were second to the ball with a 4-0 half-time deficit.
A determined team talk at the break saw Chasetown come out with pride in mind, but Vale increased the lead to 5-0 with a long range effort which fizzed into the top corner of the net.
Many teams would have let this additional setback deflate them, but Chasetown found the resolve to up their game. The hard work reaped its reward when a great header from Jade Arber, returning from injury, found the net from a superb corner by Jodie Kinsey.
Spurred on and encouraged Chasetown dug deep and battled hard, despite head injuries to Stacey Roberts and Carly Edwards.
The Scholars pulled another goal back, with Jade Arber rewarded for her hard work as her great positioning and willingness to run resulted in a superb goal as she slotted the ball past the keeper.
The Chasetown spirit shone through as they really did battle right through to the dying minutes and could take great heart from being 4-0 down at half-time and winning the second half 2-1.
