New Conservative councillors in Lichfield and Burntwood are set for a baptism of fire.
Cllr Mike Wilcox, leader of Lichfield District Council, revealed that he would be handing a number of vice-chair roles on committees to new representatives.
The Tories now hold 41 of the 47 seats on the local authority after the recent local elections.
The new Conservative young guns include Ben Rayner, Olivia Shepherd and Beth Fisher.
And the surprise victories in Burntwood and other areas will see some of the new councillors rewarded for their efforts.
“We have lots of new people on the council now which is fantastic,” he said. “This means we have younger councillors who have the opportunity to make an impression.
“That’s why a lot of the committee vice chairman roles which will be confirmed at tomorrow’s council meeting will be given out to relatively new people.
“I’m keen to see what they’re like and what their make-up is.”
The list of roles will be confirmed at the first meeting of the council since the election tomorrow evening.
But Cllr Wilcox believes the raft of younger councillors being elected means the authority needs to move with the times.
He said: “I’m not being ageist in any way, but we’ve got to give people who’ve put themselves forward a chance to show what they’re made of.
“We can’t continue just using the same people we’ve used over the last four years, we’ve got to give other people an opportunity.
“Most of them are up for the challenge which is fantastic. It’s just what we want as a forward thinking authority.”
