REFORM UK has appointed a new leader at Staffordshire County Council.
Cllr Chris Large, who currently serves as cabinet member for finance and resources, has been appointed by the controlling group.
His deputy will be Cllr Martin Murray, who was acting leader following the fall-out over social media posts made by previous leader Cllr Ian Cooper.
Cllr Large said:
“I am delighted to have been elected as the new Reform UK group leader.
“Since joining the council last May, I have drawn on my corporate experience to drive greater efficiency and value for money.
“I have identified millions of pounds in savings by cutting waste, including implementing a freeze on non-essential staff recruitment.
“I have worked to help balance this year’s budget, deliver a below-average council tax, and ensure vital funding for children and families, while commissioning a further nine efficiency reviews to maximise the value of residents’ hard-earned taxes.
“I look forward to continuing this work in my new role, alongside my colleagues, to deliver real results for our community.”
A spokesperson for Reform UK said Cllr Large’s experience as chief executive in the finance and banking industry for more than three decades would be “invaluable”.
